Pianist, singer, choral music arranger, and music professor, Ms. Kinchen holds a Bachelor's Degree in both Music and Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from California State University at Hayward. She began her piano studies under the tutelage of her mother, Louise Pendelton Lindsay, and later studied with Lora Toombs Scott. At the age of twelve she was granted a scholarship to study with concert pianist and professor, Bernard Abramowitsch. As a university student, Ms. Kinchen studied with Roy Goodman, father and teacher of Janet Goodman Guggenheim, concert pianist and touring accompanist for violinist Itzhak Perlman. Ms. Kinchen has been presented in solo piano recitals and concerts in numerous Bay Area churches and at UC Berkeley's Noon Concert Series. She has also performed as accompanist in many Bay Area churches and in both UC Zellerbach and Hertz Halls, as well as Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall. Ms. Kinchen's formal study in voice began under the instruction of Eleanor Cohen, while Ms. Kinchen was a candidate for a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at California State University at Hayward. She was appointed head of the Vocal Music Department at Encinal High School of Alameda, where she served until her appointment as Co-chair of the Laney College Music Department. Although now retired from her full-time post, Ms. Kinchen continues to teach voice both at Laney College and privately.
